A pox on military commanders who do not understand the meaning of war. Hello, Admiral, we're fighting a war in Iraq right now, not the projected war someplace else. If you don't like General Petraeus, if he bothers you for some reason, please don't take it out on the US troops fighting in Iraq. Please allow them all the help possible.
Oh, Lord! What a war, where our worst enemies have come from within!
Last week Iraq Slogger announced they were providing a free subscription to all State Department employees. That's great news. Just imagine! Foggy Bottom able to follow events in Iraq! I'm hoping Slogger will extend the free offer to Pentagon employees. If not, will someone donate a subscription to Admiral Fallon -- the CENTCOM Commander?
According to today's Washington Post, Fallon wants a lower troop level in Iraq on his supposition that the US soldiers should accept more risk in Iraq; this, because he wants to free up more US troops for any future war that could materialize anywhere around the world.
If he read Iraq Slogger, Fallon would know that the military is already taking a huge risk with the current troop level in Iraq, which is still not enough to give the US a clear victory in Iraq.
He should read the announcement by Mookie's spokesperson that if the US tries to enter Basra the Mahdi Army will fight them. And while the spokesperson doesn't say, it's certain that Iran would join the fray. So there's a projected conflict, and one which is very plausible and serious.
Why haven't CENTCOM commanders wanted to accord the Iraq conflict the seriousness it deserves? I have asked the question a thousand times, and never found an answer.
