RBO is staying on top of this story (now dubbed BlagoGate) as it unfolds at breakneck speed through the day. Check RBO frequently for updates and new posts. See the site for video of Fitzgerald's presser. Also:
A RBO regular is combing through the 70-plus page federal criminal corruption complaint against Ill. Gov. Rod Blagojevich and his chief of staff, John Harris, that was revealed today by U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald’s office. RBO will post that information and any other speculation on the identities of those “named” in the document as soon as it becomes available. Some identities have already been nailed.

This has been on the way for many months. RBO has all the news and background.
Will Chicago, and Illinois, finally get cleaned up? That's the plan, and the first trial of political fixer and Barack Obama mentor Tony Rezko and now the governor's arrest suggest the plan is going ahead, no matter what the cost to the Illinois political machine. But Illinois has been cleaned up before and yet the pervasive corruption, centered in Chicago, soon returned.
For a reason I can't clearly articulate Chicago reminds me of Phnom Penh. It's as if the corruption stems from a decay that seeped into the buildings and sidewalks, the very air. Chicago, as with Phnom Penh, is a city of ghosts. Maybe Chicago needs an exorcist as much as a crusading federal prosecutor.
