Katla Watch

"Eyjafjallajökull has blown three times in the past thousand years," Dr McGarvie told The Times, "in 920AD, in 1612 and between 1821 and 1823. Each time it set off Katla." Katla Volcano is located in southern Iceland under the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. A blogger named John posting for Discovery Magazine has been keeping a close eye on Katla. His last comment (see #17), posted August 10 in the comment section for his July 20 post on Katla, reads:

... since my post, there has not been a day without a dozen-ish earthquakes under Katla. If you click on the tab that says “Table” it lists the characteristics of the earthquakes, including their depth. Many are quite deep, 5 or more km. I have not seen any above 2 in magnitude yet. I have no idea how to interpret this but it definitely looks different since mid-July than it did previously.
