'Life in the Green Zone' author settles into watching as Kandahar COIN operation launches

The Washington Post's Rajiv Chandrasekaran wrote the best book on the CPA in Baghdad. (Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq's Green Zone). Now he's taking notes as Gen. Petraeus recycles the Baghdad COIN approach for the city of Kandahar. Will it work to flummox the Taliban? There's lots of complaints already, as there were in Baghdad when the operation got underway. (These cement barriers are keeping my store safe but now I have no customers; these bomb-jamming devices are interfering with my cell phone reception; etc. etc.) Yes it'll work. The biggest problem, however, has no ready solution: finding enough Afghans to fill government posts.

Meanwhile, General Petraeus has issued his first official guidance to Allied troops in Afghanistan.
