On the risks of being too clean

Hand Wash the Dishes and Protect the Kids from Allergies
Children whose families have a habit of washing dishes by hand were linked to a lower risk of developing allergies as compared to the ones whose families use a machine dishwasher.

We all buy machines to do our work like washing dishes etc. But researchers say that it may be a good thing that some of the dirt remains on the dishes. The study supports a so-called hygiene hypothesis that says that early exposure to an array of various microbes is a good thing and is needed to help children develop a healthy immune system that ultimately provides protection against allergies and other diseases.

The latest study was published in the journal Pediatrics. It involved around 1,029 Swedish children who were aged between 7 and 8. Families were given questionnaires to fill out about the history of children’s asthma, rhinoconjunctivitis, and eczema.
