14 years on, it doesn't get any easier for me to remember.
The photograph shows a part of the Flight 93 National Memorial visitor's center, which opened yesterday a mile from the plane's crash site in rural Pennsylvania. The memorial is designed to be as much a saga as a physical place, to convey as a visceral experience what happened that day to the flight's passengers.
Yet their final acts stand as an incredibly profound and inspiring parable about the human race. While the world's most powerful military was flummoxed, a small group of civilians quickly improvised a defense that stopped a devastating attack on their nation's capital city.
Maybe Homer could have done justice to the incident but all we have is the words, "Let's roll."
