RT readers don't believe spin on meeting between Putin and Saudis today UPDATED

Very funny. Here's a sample from a reader, screen name tribexa:

Someone tell Putin, if you lie with dogs, you will catch their fleas, and I am very surprised Putin would meet to dialogue with these so called humans from Saudi Arabia concerning Syria; that is none of their business, or concern. I only hope this story is a front and Putin personally told them he will bomb them back before creation itself, if they continue to fund the destruction of Syria and the people of Syria.

Another reader said Putin must have summoned them to read the riot act.

Probably there was some frank discussion but diplomacy must have its say.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Saudi Arabia’s defense minister have agreed that Moscow and Riyadh should pursue common goals in Syria, including national reconciliation and combating terrorists, Russian FM Sergey Lavrov said.

Putin met with Sheikh Mohammed bin Salman for talks on the sidelines of a Formula 1 race in Sochi on Sunday. The meeting was also attended by the foreign ministers of both states.

“The sides confirmed that Saudi Arabia and Russia have similar goals concerning Syria,”said Russian FM Sergey Lavrov following the talks. “First of all, they are to prevent a terrorist caliphate from getting the upper hand in Syria.”

I don't think Putin minds picking up a few fleas if it will keep alive Saudi negotiations to buy Russian weapons -- although that RT report is from June.....

... Putin's meeting with Riyadh's Defence Minister Mohammed bin Salman, a son of the Saudi king and leading figure in its regional security policy, was the Kremlin's boldest move to reach out to Assad's foes since launching the strikes.

After the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of a Formula One Grand Prix race in the Russian resort of Sochi, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow had sought to assuage Riyadh's concerns. Both sides shared the objective of preventing a "terrorist caliphate" from taking root in Syria, he said.

Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said Saudi Arabia, which along with other Arab states has joined a U.S.-led coalition bombing Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, was still demanding Assad's removal from power. He hoped talks with Russia would continue.

Putin also met Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who holds a senior post in the armed forces of the United Arab Emirates, another rich Gulf state hostile to Assad. ...
