Joy (Hanging onto our humanity, Part 6)

Recently I've been thinking about joy, about how important it is for the young to be taught formal ways to express the joy of being alive. I decided to write an essay on the theme as part of my Hanging Onto Our Humanity series but kept putting off the task. Then I learned that today is Purim, "one of the most joyous and fun holidays on the Jewish calendar." That clinched it; ready or not these two very different celebrations of being joyful will suffice for an essay:
