TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian government forces' rapid advances in the Eastern part of Homs province has forced the ISIL terrorist group to start evacuation of the group's combatants and their family members from the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmur), informed sources announced.

"The Takfiri terrorists have launched an evacuation operation in Palmyra and are rapidly transferring their families from the city to al-Sakhanah East of Homs or to Raqqa province," the sources said.

A report said earlier today that the Syrian Army, with the Russian's massive air support, have driven the ISIL terrorists back from more strongholds in the Western part of the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmur) in Homs province.

"The Syrian soldiers, Liwa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade) and the 67th Brigade of the 18th Tank Division advanced to a number of new sites in Western Palmyra, including Wadi al-Dhakara after a violent battle with the ISIL," the sources said.

"The Syrian Armed Forces, meantime, enter briefly the Palmyra Castle (Qal’at Tadmur) on Monday night before pulling back in order to allow the Russian Air Force to bombard the terrorist group around Mount Qassoun," the sources added.

The Syrian Armed Forces are still deploying more soldiers to this front because the final assault on the city will require a large force to take Palmyra from the ISIL terrorists.

From AMN earlier today:

Tiger Forces advance in western Palmyra as ISIL’s defenses crumble

The Syrian Arab Army’s “Tiger Forces” are steadily advancing in the Palmyra (Tadmur) countryside after arriving just 48 hours ago from the east Aleppo front, where they successfully liberated several villages from the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) in a five month span.

On Monday evening, the Tiger Forces – backed by Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade) and the 67th Brigade of the 18th Tank Division – advanced to a number of new sites in western Palmyra, including Wadi Al-Dhakara after a violent battle with ISIS. In addition to their advance at Wadi Al-Dhakara, the Syrian Armed Forces were able to briefly enter the Palmyra Castle (Qal’at Tadmur) on Monday night before pulling back in order to allow the Russian Air Force to bombard the terrorist group around Mount Qassoun.

The current offensive in western Palmyra is only the prelude to what is expected to be a massive assault to take this ancient desert city located in the Homs Governorate’s eastern countryside. The Syrian Armed Forces are still deploying more soldiers to this front because the final assault on the city will require a large force to take Palmyra from the ISIS terrorists. However, if they are successful, they will be within striking distance of the oil rich town of Al-Sakhenah and the Palmyra-Deir Ezzor Highway.
