Terrorists storm American Univ in Kabul, take students hostage; unknown number killed and injured UPDATE 12:35 PM EDT

Updated report approx 10 minutes ago from IBT - "100s of students and staff under siege."  RT reported earlier it's a complex attack with special forces on the way; police massed outside the building.

Gunmen have stormed the building of the American University in Kabul. Gunfire has been heard at the site.

An explosion hit the American University of Afghanistan in the capital city of Kabul, local media reported Wednesday.
According to the TOLOnews television channel’s Twitter account, perpetrators of the explosion have infiltrated the facility.
According to 1tvnews, there are killed and injured as the result of the attack.
Students are being held hostage in the university, Ariana News reported.
"Several gunmen attacked the American University in Kabul and there are reports of gunfire and explosions," an Afghan Interior Ministry official told Reuters. "They are inside the compound and there are foreign professors along with hundreds of students."
Americans who are in Kabul, Afghanistan should take caution amid reports of an attack at the city's American University, the US Department of State said in a Twitter message on Wednesday.
