Old School Thursday: Archie Bell & The Drells

Were they the real 'father' of Disco music?  Some say yes, but the debates will go on about which group really started the disco dance beat. One thing everyone can agree on about AB&D: it was one of the stars of Philadelphia Soul, aka The Philly Sound:
By grafting strings and smooth horn charts to the Memphis groove, Leon Huff, Kenny Gamble, and Thom Bell created what became known as "the Philly Sound" in the 1970s, a formula that prefigured both disco (by dialing up the funk) and (once they factored in Al Green and Hi Records) contemporary urban soul.
