Syrian authorities are in full swing to reopen the Aleppo international airport for civilian flights after years of closure due to the heavy fighting between the Syrian Army and rebel forces.

The reopening of the country's second largest airport comes as government forces, backed by allies, managed to fully re-take all rebel-held districts in the city's east.

Thousands of militants and civilians are now being evacuated from their last pocket as per an agreement brokered by Russia and Turkey.

The airport was first closed in January 2013 when rebel fighters stormed Brigade 80 to the north of the airport. It was then reopened for a shot time in January 2014.
