So many brave Syrians have been killed defending their country but this is the first time I have offered my sympathies on this blog to one of the families of the fallen. I do not believe there is any question even at this early stage that Col. Mare's killing is a war crime committed by a government that seems to have lost all conscience. But long after the government is forgotten, Syria will stand as a beacon of hope for the world and Syrians such as Col. ‘Umran Mare will have made it so.
