TEHRAN (FNA)- Iraqi troops have seized control over 600 km of the borderline with Syria, a commander declared on Sunday.

The Arabic-language website of RT quoted Iraqi Border Commander Major General Hamed al-Hosseini as reporting that the country's forces have gained control over 600 km of border line with Syria.

The report further said that the Iraqi forces' control over the entire borderline with Syria has killed the chance for the terrorists to infiltrate from Syria to Iraq.

The Arabic RT further said that the Iraqi forces have set up a number of monitoring towers and erected entanglements to seal the border from triangular region between Iraq, Syria and Jordan to the Northern banks of the Euphrates River near the town of al-Qa'em in Western Anbar province.

The report went on to say that the remaining pockets of ISIL are still operating in some deserts in Syria near the border with Iraq.

Last month, Iraq said it had launched an airstrike against ISIL positions inside the Syrian territory as both neighboring countries step up efforts to get rid of the Takfiri terror group’s remnants.

The Iraqi military said in a statement on June 7 that the Iraqi Air Force F-16 warplanes destroyed an undisclosed location where members of the terrorist group were operating.

ISIL started a campaign of terror against Syria and Iraq in 2013 and 2014, respectively. It lost all of its strongholds in both countries last year thanks to counterterrorism offensives of the Iraqi and Syrian national armies backed by their allies.
