The IDF forced the Jerusalem Post to remove its explosive report on the Israeli military giving weapons to the Syrian rebels, the newspaper’s managing editor confirmed to RT.
“We were told by the army’s military censor to remove that part of the story,” David Brinn, the managing editor of the Jerusalem Post told RT as he replied to a request for comment.
The report, "IDF confirms: Israel provided light-weapons to Syrian rebels," which claimed that the Israeli military acknowledged for the first time that it had provided money, weapons and ammunition to the Syrian militants, was removed just hours after being published without any explanation.
According to Brinn, the story was removed “for security reasons evidently.” The IDF told RT that it would not comment on the issue.
The Jerusalem Post article was removed shortly after being published but a version of the article can still be read using Google cache
It claimed that regular supplies of light weapons and ammunition to the Syrian militants holding the territories near the Israeli border were part of the Operation Good Neighbor, which Israel portrayed as a humanitarian mission, which was focused on providing Syrians with “food, clothes and fuel.”
Israel has been arming at least seven different militant groups in Syria’s Golan Heights, the report said. It also added that the Israeli military believed that providing weapons to the militants was “the right decision” as they sought to keep Hezbollah and Iran away from Israel’s Golan Heights by such means.
The deleted report comes on the heels of another major disclosure. On Monday, the IDF announced that Israel has carried out more than 200 strikes on Syrian targets in the past year and a half.
[END REPORT]
I think the IDF would have considerably more explaining to do than what they did in their interview with the Jerusalem Post, which obviously the IDF quickly regretted. I say that in consideration of news reports like this one today from FARS:
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian army discovered a large number of weapons and ammunition, including US-made missiles and Israeli weapons in one of the terrorists' strongholds in Quneitra, which was retaken recently by the Syrian army.
The army troops found an arms and ammunition cache of the terrorists during the purging operations in the towns of al-Rafid and al-Bariqah in Quneitra province on Wednesday.
The large amount of weapons included different types of missiles such as the US-made TOW missiles and Israeli-made grenades. [...]What I want to know is what year does the IDF think this is? 1982? Have they never heard of a cached document?
This is not 1982. It's not possible to keep the lid on anymore, not for any length of time. People all around the world are finding ways to dodge their mainstream media's iron curtain and get around government censorship in order to glean some idea of what's actually been happening in Syria.
Everything will come to public light ,eventually -- everything that a bunch of governments did in the attempt to grab control of the country. But for years Israel's regime persuaded the Israeli public and many others that Israel was a reasonably neutral observer of the Syrian War. Well, they weren't, we're finding out.
Yet the weapons are nothing in comparison to the kind of proxy fighters that supposedly civilized governments unleashed on the Syrian people. That part of the story is also coming out, slowly but inexorably.
However, the more governments lose control of their 'narratives' to rationalize aggression against other countries, the more dangerous they can become to their own citizens. What happened today in Israel is one of many warnings to that effect.
