BEIRUT, LEBANON – The jihadist rebels have agreed to surrender the entire Al-Lajat region of northeast Dara’a to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) after suffering several setbacks this past weekend.

According to a military source in the government stronghold of Izra’a, the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS [aka al Qaeda]) and their allies from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) agreed to hand over the 20+ towns they controlled in the Al-Lajat region to the Syrian Army.

The source added that many rebels will remain in Al-Lajat to settle their cases with the Syrian government, while the remaining will move to southeast Dara’a.

For the jihadist rebels this is a major blow to their morale, as they controlled the Al-Lajat region for most of the war.

Furthermore, the loss of northeast Dara’a only adds to the pressure that is already on their forces inside the entire province.

With the Al-Lajat region soon to be under their control, the Syrian Army will turn their attention to the Nassib Crossing and historical city of Busra Al-Sham in southeast Dara’a.
