This letter to Gen. Petraeus does double-duty as a reply to the reader who disputed the worth of the advice I gave the U.S. military yesterday in Stay out the Bazaar. He wrote that my points were not applicable because Pakistan was a "failed, rogue state." This gave me cause to consider that the advice was too abstract for some. I hope the above helps the more concrete-minded readers feel their way to Bazaar's central point.
