Kangaroo Trial of the Century winds up! Marc Lemire's closing arguments start today for his challenge to Section 13!

"Freedom of speech is an American concept, so I don't give it any value ... It's not my job to give value to an American concept."

-- Dean Steacy, lead Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC) investigator, Section 13 complaints

"If this were a real investigation of a real crime with real police, and the alleged 'victim' were to walk right into the crime lab, hop on the officers' computers, and poke around the evidence, a judge wouldn't have to throw the case out — prosecutors would be too embarrassed to even bring the case to trial. Not so at the commission."

"And to say the CHRC's section 13 thought crimes case against Marc Lemire has backfired is an understatement. Not only have his counterattacks blown the lid off the CHRC's corrupt tactics, such as their practice of posting anonymous, bigoted messages online, but their illegal hacking into a private citizen's Internet account has now attracted the scrutiny of Canada's Privacy Commissioner.”

-- Ezra Levant, Canadian attorney, journalist and free speech activist

On November 25, 2005 Marc Lemire and his lawyer, Barbara Kulaszka, filed a constitutional challenge to Section 13 and Section 54 of the Canadian Human Rights Act. After 26 hearing days, 8 interveners and 11 witnesses spread across two years and 4 Ontario cities, the closing arguments are finally being presented.

So bring popcorn to the computer because there will be live-blogging of the hearing, which starts at 9:30 AM in Ontario. Check throughout the day at Marc's Freedomsite for updates.

Freedomsite also carries a huge amount of information on the issues related to Section 13, Marc's case, and past Section 13 cases. See here for closing submissions in the constitutional challenge.
