US BOMBING CIVILIAN AREAS OF DAMASCUS; RED CRESCENT HIT, CIVILIAN CASUALTIES REPORTED Updated (all EDT), until midnight all times PM 4/13: 11:29, 11:41, 11:52, 11:55, 11:58. 4/14 12:07 AM, 5:07 AM

Update 5:10 AM April 14
Of course there was -- still is -- a fog of war, with plenty of conflicting reports. Here is Sputnik's summary of the situation; the Russians claim that Syria's air defense shot down"most" of the missiles that the Axis powers, chiefly Americans, dropped on Syria. From another report, the Syrian General Staff is reporting this morning that there were three people injured in the bombings. Here is the latest tally, published by Al-Masdar News.

We'll learn more as the hours wear on.

Also, in an update earlier this morning, Bernhard at Moon of Alabama sees the attack as a nothingburger. The way I see things, it was an unprovoked attack on another nation. I don't consider that a nothingburger even though I understand it could have been much worse.

End Update

I'm posting as fast I can on the US/UK/FR missile strikes on Damascus. Will keep updating this post as I find the reports. Updates at the end except for any I find in Moon of Alabama comment section; I'll keep those together.  I think the time stamps for "Plod" and other MoA commenters  are all Eastern Daylight Time, US.

...the attack was halted shortly after Russian jets went airborne. Inconsistent accounts on whether they were on an intercept path or headed towards Al Tanf.

Bundy as already cited here several times (a commenter at SyPer) seems to have roughly the same information.

More from Bundy:

Intercept incoming. Russian planes snapped towards vector of UK and French planes.

Mainly the missiles are coming from the South and from the East. High air activity over Jordan. Jet fighters attack launched from Al-Edid Air Base, Qatar

No ships are taking part. Syria has coastal defenses that can sink them maybe why.

Matts just claimed that US destroyed all the chemical facilities of Syria, keep this in mind for when the next lie comes

Scientific research center in Barzeh (not)!Jumrya is hit
Along with Mazzeh AB.

First wave fired from the east is now over.. More are expected. The ships in the med have not taken part in this.

The 2nd wave of attack began now.

Wave after wave of cruise missiles hitting Syria; it is not stopping. Over 40 minutes of cruise missiles.

They are avoiding all Russian areas but bombing civilian areas as well.

Most of the missile attack has been foiled as of 8 minutes ago. Civilian research center and Red Crescent Housing Center in heavily-populated Barzeh was hit.

US struck one of Damascus’ most densely populated suburbs. Jaramana reporting strikes.

Civilian casualties are being reported in Damascus as at least 2 residential areas have been struck by the US-led force’s missiles. At least 4 dead in one of the strikes.

SecDef Mattis and Chairman JCS Dumford giving a presser now, state this is a one-off attack, US role is now complete (22:11 hrs EDT). Said they used routine deconfliction channel to inform Russian armed forces.

Mattis is still answering questions (22:20 EDT). (I flipped to CNN for the press conference). He said approx twice as many missiles used tonight than last year's attack. He said targets were not announced to the Russians, but air lanes that would be used were described. He is also being very cagy answering questions about the 'proof' of the chemical attack, and of which chemicals were used (chlorine or sarin). He looks quite uncomfortable telling blatant lies.
