CNN's Wolf Blitzer reported on today's 5:00 PM EDT segment that sources in touch with General David Petraeus say he will not call for any troop cut, even a token one, when he testifies before Congress next week. According to CNN, Petraeus says that he needs every brigade right now.
Wolf said this flies in the face of reports in today's New York Times and Washington Post that Petraeus could call for a minor troop cut. CNN reported that according to a military source close to Petraeus the press reports are nonsense.
Of course there has been a blizzard of speculation about what Petraeus will recommend to Congress next week, so add the CNN report to the snowdrifts -- but the report did seem well sourced. The story is not yet posted on the CNN website.
