A tsunami warning has been issued for the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, and Nauru after an 8.0. magnitude earthquake struck 70km off the Solomon Islands, according to USGS.
“Widespread hazardous tsunami waves are possible,” stated the warning issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

No tsunami warning has been issued. There have been two significant aftershocks that hit Thursday morning -- a 5.0 and a 4.9.
The quake was first reported as a magnitude-6.8 but was later downgraded.
The quake was reported at 6:49 a.m. well north of the Bay Area, but prompted delays of 10 minutes systemwide on BART as trains ran at reduced speeds as a precaution.
People reported feeling the earthquake as far away as San Francisco and Santa Cruz. It reportedly hit right on the Mendocino fault line.
There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
