BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:20 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) scored a major advance along the Jordanian-Daraa border on Monday, seizing a number of towns that were previously under the control of the rebel forces.

Residents of Zaizoun cheered on the Syrian Arab Army as they entered their village in the southern province of Daraa, as footage filmed on Monday shows. [See video at AMN]

Civilians welcomed the SAA with chants and victory signs, and some of them even placed soldiers on their shoulders.

Army troops also reportedly arrived in Tal Shihab, where they were reportedly given a similar welcome.

Last week, the Syrian government and militant groups reached a ceasefire accord in Daraa during negotiations brokered by Moscow.

The UN has estimated that more than 320,000 people have been displaced in the Daraa region since the beginning of an offensive in the region.
