"But by God there'll be dancing"

"My Best Friend's Wedding" (premiered 1997) is a wonderfully silly romantic comedy but it's also a meditation on the meaning of a true friend, the one who is there during the moments when a person feels completely broken in spirit. Often it's not the hoped-for friend, the expected friend, and just as often it's a stranger: either a person one has never met before -- or never really known before.
