Attackers raided Iran’s parliament and opened fire at the Mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini a few kilometers south of the capital on Wednesday morning, in near simultaneous assaults that killed up to seven people, media reported.

Tasmin news agency said there were unconfirmed reports that the attackers had taken four hostages inside the parliament building.

Three assailants, one with a pistol and two with AK-47 assault rifles, carried out the attack in central Tehran, lawmaker Elias Hazrati told state television.

Another lawmaker said one of the assailants was surrounded by security forces and all the doors to the building had been closed, ISNA news agency reported. The attackers killed seven people and wounded several others, Tasmin said.

"I was inside the parliament when shooting happened. Everyone was shocked and scared. I saw two men shooting randomly," said one journalist at the scene, who asked not to be named.

Around half an hour later, an attacker opened fire at the Mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini, injuring several members of the public, Iran's English-language Press TV said.

State news agency IRNA quoted an official at the mausoleum as saying the attacker had set off a suicide bomb after shooting at people.

Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini launched the Islamic revolution in 1979.

Iranian TV said parliament had resumed, and broadcast footage of what it said was the opening session proceeding normally.

TEHRAN (FNA)- Four unknown male assailants fired several rounds at the guards protecting the parliament building in Tehran, killing two and wounding ten others in the hallway on Wednesday morning.
According to initial reports, the assailants opened their way into the parliament building while shooting at the guards, killing two IRGC guards and wounding 10 civilians.
The ten civilians were reportedly citizens from different constituencies who had come to visit their deputies.
One of the male assailants escaped the building, but a ranking member of the parliament told FNA that he was captured as he was on the run.
Senior member of the parliament's Presiding Board Akbar Ranjbarzadeh said that the assailants were arrested at the parliament's hallway, while later reports said exchange of fire still continues.
Meantime, Elyas Hazrati, a senior MP, said that three assailants attacked the parliament, carrying 2 Kalashnikov rifles and a handgun.
Contradictory reports are coming from the parliament as one of the deputies said the assailants were four and have been trapped in the offices of the deputies.
"Clashes still continue at the parliament building," he said.
A number of legislators said that two parliament guards who had been wounded by the assailants were martyred.
Reporters outside the parliament said that the guards are dispersing people but the sound of shooting is still heard from inside the parliament's building.
Meantime, several assailants raided the holy shrine of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, South of the capital Tehran on Wednesday morning, killing one and wounding two people in a bomb attack and a shooting spree.
Several Arab media outlets claimed that ISIL has been in charge of the attacks, but removed the news report from their websites after half an hour.
